TBP Friday Faves: Pampering in Minutes on a Budget
‘Me time’ is a luxury.
It wasn’t before Nate was born – I had all the time in the world. But, now my time is ‘Nate Time.’ I’ve learned to steal moments where I can.
As a very new momma, I felt guilty about this. But, I’ve accepted that taking time for me is a necessity. It keeps me balanced and helps me to be a better momma and wife.
Here are a few of my favorite ways to pamper myself without taking tons of time.
Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dry Nail Polish
All my nail polish used to come from the beauty store. When I realized I’d have to get Nate in and out of the car seat for one stinkin’ bottle of polish I started picking it up at Wal-Mart or CVS. I tried a few different brands before my little sis told me she used Sally Hansen Insta-Dry. I bought a bottle not believing that it dried in 60 seconds or that it covers in one coat.
Oh, but it does!
I painted my nails and 60 seconds later I made a grilled portabello mushroom salad. No nicks. No smears.
Here’s a pic of my nails after 4 days of wear with just one coat. No top coat. I know – almost too good to be true. And for somewhere between $3.50 – $5.50 a bottle you can’t go wrong. Watch CVS for Sally Hansen ExtraBuck offers.
Ok, so the Clarisonic Mia‘s not exactly cheap. It runs about $110 dollars. Enough to cause me to pause before buying one.
Being frugal, I tried the Revlon version first. I loved it but it wasn’t as waterproof as they claimed and the insides rusted.
I eventually gave in and bought the Mia.
Oh, gosh, I love it. I love it. I love it. The Mia is 60 seconds of facial bliss. After two weeks of twice a day use, my skin looked like I had a $100 facial. In two minutes a day I can keep my skin looking salon-beautiful all year long. Not a bad deal.
Audio Books and my iPhone
Not exactly what might come to mind when one thinks of pampering. But, my beloved iPhone helps me get some ‘me time’ in.
Being a busy momma, Maggie is an avid audiobook listener. Once Nate came along I followed suit. I listen to books while I’m exercising, making dinner, and running errands. It feeds my insatiable need to learn and grow. Right now I’m listening to Anatomy of the Spirit by Carolyn Myss for the second time. Before that I listened to Wishes Fulfilled by Wayne Dyer.
Even though I’m multi-tasking I still feel like I get my me-time. Check out Audible.com – you can get a free audiobook when you subscribe to their monthly program. And, of course, there’s an app for your iPhone too.
